Perhaps to bolster my earlier haphazardly thought up theory of the origins of the lingering urban legend that Capiz is home to Aswangs (local version of vampires), here is another news article that came out in the New York Times on Christmas Day of 1900.A group of men kill a woman on suspicion that she is a witch.
