Movies!

It's been months since I last sat in a movie house enjoying a good movie. Something I used to do almost twice a week, when I was still in Manila.

Sure there are movie houses in Brussels, but it's not the same, and it costs a pittance back home for state of the art movie houses.

Geeeez.

Hilarious Brit Reality TV of the Day: The Hotel Inspector

BWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAHAAAAA!

Ghastly!

Sordid!

Of all the bathrooms in this world this must be the world's most horrible!

Such an unappealing place to Have breakfast!

but How much stuffing is left in this pillow????

The quality of the cold cuts is very poor.

to the cleaning lady: "do you even have a sense of pride in your cleaning?"

The quality of the finish is really really poor, really really bad!

The designs not only don't work, they're ghastly just bloody ghastly.

bwaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahaha those are just some of the comments this lady, Ruth Watson blurts out in her Reality TV Show.

here's the description, try to watch it, i dunno if it reaches you though.
=========================================================

Renowned hotelier and author Ruth Watson returns to Channel Five, to continue her mission to reverse Britain’s depressing reputation for poorly run hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs.

Ruth tours the country in a bid to bring the eight targeted hotels up to her impeccably high standards, and with her unique brand of straight-talking and practical advice, turn them into successful and profitable ventures. From staffing to menus and from décor to hygiene, Ruth will leave no stone unturned in her desire for perfection.

"All round the country, especially in seaside towns, the same three problems crop up: a lack of cleanliness, no marketing endeavour and a general mediocrity of product. It's going to take more than the Hotel Inspector to get our hotels and guest houses up to snuff before the Olympics."

bwaaaaaaaaaahahahahhahahahahahaha!!!!

I'm madly deeply head over heels in love

Brugge Eternal - Museum City

We decided to sight see (and party) in Brugge, an hour's train ride from Brussels.   I (deliberately) forgot to bring my digicam charger (so stooopid of me) becaues I thought the charge would last me 3 more days. WTF!!!!  So the second slide show are Mike's photos.  Brugge is so lovely, it immediately went to one of my top cities in the world. Really.

These are photos taken by buddy Mike S. (The Other Mike) who's visiting Brussels while on term break from Masters in Vienna and Wroclaw.  All photos in the bottom slideshow are mike s.'s (all rights reserved)

Help Don Miguel pick out his first DSLR please?

Am getting my first digital SLR next week. with my VAT-Off (21% in Belgium) privileges here, the price is too tempting . . . even for poor impoverished dead-hungry (read: patay-gutom :D ) me. The prices are almost as cheap as getting a high-end SLR :D

Can Someone please help me decide which one to pick? Something for a beginner DSLR user, not too expensive not too basic?

whatcha think?

how much are these things back there anyway?

Many thanks folks!

-Don Miguel, Il Signorino

(Brugge, Belgium, 24 February 2008)

Fleetingly she goes

in her brand new blue dress
made by the village seamstress
off a magazine

she feels so happy today
and rightly so
her daughter called to say
she just got engaged
and her son got promoted
last week

so happy and gaily about
she walks with a trot
a spring in her step and
randomy smiling throughout

Fleetingly she goes . . .

I fell asleep on the couch . . .

. . . on a winter night, without the heater on . . . dig that.

haha, i'm such a warm blooded mammal. My buddy, the other MIke, and I decided to end our partying near the EU parliament (around the bars in Place Luxembourg) so we can travel to Brugge and Antwerp the next day. So at 11pm we were home with both our macs in the living watching Andam Sandlers movie, Big Daddy on TV.

I got two of my pillows and plopped down the couch. He was on a comfy chair . . .

and before I knew it, I woke up at 6am, in the cold, and the TV showing some other movie, perhaps the 3rd after Andam Sandler's stupid movie.

Geeez . . .

17 Suicides in a Welsh Town, Bridgend since start of 2007. Sad Sad

This former coal mining town, Bridgend, mourns its 17th young suicide victim since 2007.

Something evil is afoot in this town maybe? Mass depression?

Sad Sad . . .

Teenager found dead in Bridgend
LONDON (AFP) — The body of a teenage girl has been found in Bridgend, the 17th young person living near the Welsh town to die by apparent suicide since the start of 2007.
Police identified the teenager as 16-year-old schoolgirl Jenna Parry, who was from the village of Cefn Cribwr, just five miles from Bridgend. She was found by a man walking his dog across the village common.
South Wales Police, who have been conducting a review of suicides in the local area, stressed that there is no apparent link between the deaths.
Assistant Chief Constable Dave Morris said: "A number had access to social networking sites but there's no suggestion that anybody used these sites as a means to take their lives.
"They were all young people with big issues. There are a constellation of factors influencing these young people. Young people tell us that the media coverage is starting to contribute to those pressures."
The parents of Nathaniel Pritchard, 15, who died in hospital last week, urged the media to stop their high profile coverage of suicides in the Welsh town.
"We have lost a son, and media coverage made a difficult time unbearable. We did not wish to speak to the media. Not just for ourselves but for other families," Sharon and Vincent Pritchard said in a joint statement.
"We feel the media coverage could trigger other people who are already feeling low - to take their own lives," they added.

Guess what's up with Google Lately

Although there is totally no need for blogger to have its user language translated to Filipino, it's still something very good to have this globally used blogging client adopt our national language.

Why no need? Because, virtually everyone in the Philippines (who know how to blog) are fluent in Filipino, never mind in which accent). Every blogger user in the Philippines and Filipinos everywhere will still prefer to use the default english anyway. Of course there will be exception, but it will be really scarce.

Thanks blogger!

Estoy contento y no me puedo quejar

Outrageous Water Rate Hike in Roxas City

My mom's been telling about the price of water in Roxas City, and how we're being charged among the highest water rates in the entire country.. Now they're raising the minimums.

Much of the blame is not on the present administration of the Metro Roxas Water District (MRWD) though but on the past directors.

I remember coming across news articles in the past where Mar Roxas had an outburst because the directors of this water concession incurred loans totalling about a billion pesos to bankroll ambitious water projects to other farther municipalities, not anymoe within roxas city nor the Metro Roxas districts. Sen. Mar got mad because the improved water utility system in the Roxas was one of the first and best legacies of his late brother Dinggoy Roxas when he was still our congressman.

Then I also heard from sources that the MWRD officials bought lots of land paid for by MWRD which they conveniently awarded themselves.

Geeez.

here's the latest news clip about this major Fiasco.

Capiz water distributor to hold public hearings on rate hike
By Felipe V. Celino
Visayas Bureau
First Posted 18:07:00 02/18/2008

ROXAS CITY, Philippines -- The Metro Roxas Water District (MRWD) finally acceded to the call of local officials here to conduct a public hearing on the proposed 10-percent water rate increase.

In a meeting called by Capiz Governor Victor Tanco Sr. with the interim MRWD officials on Friday, MRWD agreed to hold a public hearing at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Capiz Provincial Capitol.

The MRWD had planned to implement the 10-percent hike in water rates starting January.

In a letter to Capiz provincial government dated January 30, 2008, Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) administrator Orlando Honrade said the implementation of the water rates hike was valid and enforceable without the need of a public hearing or further review.

"It must be emphasized that once the proposed water rate increase is duly taken up or discussed in a public hearing and subsequently reviewed and approved by the administration, the same may be implemented as approved in a resolution for implementation by the concerned water district in this case, in accordance with the original time frame or much later at the discretion of the water district board," Honrade explained.

He noted that the MWRD conducted a public hearing on January 14, 2000, on the proposed increase in water rates that would be implemented on a staggered basis from only P130 minimum rate for 10-cubic meter consumption.

The MRWD approved Resolution no. 24 S-2004 for new minimum water rates of P170 on April 2004, P192 on October 2004, P230 on April 2005, P270 on October 2005 and P290 on October 2006.

However, the scheduled increases did not push through due to a moratorium on the increase that would end by 2010.

The MWRD presently charges minimum water rate of P172.

Last December, the water district sent notices to its concessionaires informing them of new minimum rates of P189.20 for residential users, P302.70 for government; P378.40 for commercial and P605.40 for industrial that would be implemented in January.

But the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Capiz passed a resolution on January 17, 2008, objecting to the 10-percent water rate increase by the MRWD starting last month.

The provincial board also passed a resolution asking MRWD to present before the provincial board the details of the intended rates increases.

The Capiz provincial board also maintained that the MRWD failed to comply with the requirements for the implementation of a water rate hike, such as holding of public hearing on the proposal and review by the LWUA.

Tanco then called a meeting with MRWD officials on February 12 to discuss the issue and to come up with a win-win solution.

MRWD interim general manager Pablo Bercilla explained that the collections from the increase would be used for the rehabilitation of old pipelines in the eastern part of Roxas City and the old water treatment plant in Arcabalo, Roxas City.

My first house guest

My good buddy Mike S. finally came over for a visit being on a term break from his School in Wrocaw, Poland. (on his 2nd year in his Masters. His first was taken in Vienna).

Right now at 2am, I can hear his notorious monster snore all the way from the guest room. hahaha.

Don Miguel back in March 17th, 2005 at 5pm

I wonder what I was thinking back then when this picture was taken back in my condo in the 33rd floor in Paragon Plaza, Mandaluyong City.

The time stamp says 3/17/2005 5:11:36 PM.

Back then I didn't have any clue i'll be here in Belgium.

This pic was sequenced right after that close up shot. It's taken inside my pad then.

Then these photos came after the first two. I probably went driving to the South to meet a client for the Spanish company I was representing in Manila then.

That's the Philamlife Building in Alabang Filiinvest Corporate City. I'm still trying to recall this very day.

Hehehe. If only photos were real-life time travel portals . . .

That Market! Market! fountain and Scenes - march 19, 2005

I chanced upon these nothing-too-great pictures I took back in March of 2005. I miss Manila already.

Luckily, I'm set to come home in March and 3 years to the the day, I'll actually be in Manila. Maybe I'll take more pictures of this fountain on the 19th itself.

Hehe.
