ASHLAND, Ky. - A man with his head wrapped in duct tape tried to rob a liquor store over the weekend but was chased off by the manager with a duct-tape-wrapped wooden bat.
Shamrock Liquors proved an unlucky target for Kasey Kazee, 24. Manager Bill Steele gave Kazee two rolls of coins then grabbed a bat beneath the counter and went after him.
Though the duct tape seemed intended to conceal Kazee’s identity, it made him easier to spot running through the parking lot. That’s where store employee Craig Miller tackled “The Duct Tape Bandit.”
Miller said he put Kazee in a chokehold until police arrived.
Kazee was charged with first-degree robbery, according to Ashland police Sgt. Mark McDowell.
He was interviewed by a local TV station and denied he was the bandit beneath the tape. It is not known if the station teased its scoop during the evening by promising, “Tape at 11.”
Kazee pleaded not guilty Monday and bond was set at $250,000.
